NASHVILLE, Tenn. -
Also on Super Tuesday, thousands of registered voters in Tennessee will cast their ballot on local amendments.
In Davidson County, Democratic voters will choose a candidate for county General Sessions Court.
Jack Byrd, Rachel Bell and Mike Jameson are vying for the position left open following the death of Judge Leon Ruben last October.
Maury County voters will decide on a Metro-style government for Columbia and Maury County.
Mt. Pleasant and Spring Hill have already opted out the of the Metro-style government.
A Metro form of government would combine the current 22 member county commission with the seven-member Columbia City Council into an 11-member Metro council.
County commissioners voiced their opposition to the Metro merger last month.
In Sumner County, voters will be asked to increase the local wheel tax to $75, making the total due each year $100 for state and local fees combined. The additional money would go to schools, giving them close to $3 million more each year.
The school board currently operates on around $188 million dollars per year to run 46 schools after the commission cut around $5 million from the proposed school board budget.
"The county commission did not fund our budget for this year so we've had to, especially the high schools, had to take some pretty hard cuts," teacher Carolyn Macdonald said
Due to the cut, Macdonald said teaching positions and staff members have limited what schools can do.
"Teachers have had to cover other teachers' classes this year because there hasn't been funding for substitutes," she explained.
If the wheel tax passes, it would go into effect July 1st.
The Tennessee Election Commission has urged voters to bring photo identification to all polling locations for the 2012 election.
Polls are open from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. on Tuesday.
