Woman accused of embezzling from after school program

GALLATIN, Tenn. -

A Sumner County woman surrendered to authorities on Monday in connection to embezzling thousands of dollars from an after school program in Gallatin.

Police said their initial investigation revealed that Lisa Merryman had used KIDZ Zone funds to make purchases for personal items that were unaccounted for by the Sumner County Board of Education.

During their investigation, authorities determined the 44-year-old woman had deposited more than $18,000 in checks made out to KIDZ Zone into her personal account between July 2011 and February 2012.

Police said the investigation is ongoing.

Merrymen is charged with one count of theft over $10,000.

Additional charges are pending.
