NASHVILLE, Tenn. -
A two-vehicle, head-on collision in Bellevue midday Tuesday sent two drivers to the hospital and shut down a busy two lane road for several hours.
The wreck was reported around 12:20 p.m. in the 8300 block of Highway 70, just past where the road merges with Charlotte Pike, before Newsom Station Road.
Metro police said the driver of a Chevrolet Impala was traveling south when he crossed the center line and struck a northbound Chevrolet Cavalier.
Both drivers had to be extricated from their vehicles and were taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
The driver of the Cavalier, Dylan Boldus, 18, of Charlotte, was not wearing a seatbelt and remained in critical condition as of late Tuesday afternoon.
The driver of the Impala, William Graves, 33, also of Charlotte, wore a seatbelt and was last listed in stable condition.
Graves told investigators he had worked until early in the morning and fell asleep behind the wheel.
Police said there was no evidence of alcohol or drug involvement at the scene.
Highway 70 remained shut down in both directions hours after the crash.
The road has since reopened.
