NASHVILLE, Tenn. -

After weeks of renovations, the Ryman Auditorium unveiled its new stage on Monday night.

Construction on the historic stage began earlier this month as crews replaced the previous 61-year-old stage wood with a stronger and darker wood.

The new design incorporates 36 inches of the original wood from 1951 around the edge of the stage.

"We were actually able to expand the amount of wood from the old stage from 18 to 36 inches which gives people more room to stand on that part of the stage if they want to soak in the vibes from their heroes who performed here before," Ryman GM Sarah Williams said.

The Band Perry was the first to play on the stage following the renovations.

The country trio performed in front of a sold-out audience on Monday night.
