FRANKLIN, Tenn. -

Three organizations teamed up with volunteers in the Franklin area Saturday to giveaway 20,000 pounds of food.

Nearly 1,000 people received some much needed help from Second Harvest Food Bank, Nashville Family Church and 1 Gen Away.

Volunteers transformed the concrete parking lot into a grocery store of sorts, complete with carts, milk, bread and other food necessities.

Pastor Chris Whitney headed up the giveaway.

"The need is so tremendous and there's nothing like looking across the table at someone else and you just realize that could be me," he told Nashville's News 2.

Sandra Johnson lined up four hours before the mobile food pantry opened to be first in line.

"These are pressing times and food prices are going up to like skyrocket high, so we was told there was going to be a food ministry today so we came to be blessed," Johnson explained.

Among those volunteering their time were also those who needed the help to fight hunger themselves.

Several TSU students and some Nashville's News 2 viewers also came out to do their part for the community.

1 Gen Away hopes to have more than a dozen additional food drives this year.
