Nashville man invents on-the-go tray for kids

Posted:
NASHVILLE, Tenn. -

If you're always in the car, chauffeuring the kids around and eating meals on the go, a Donelson man says he has just the invention for you.
Dave Francis created a child-sized tray to eat, work and play, called LapFit.

With four active kids, his family is always on the go.

Francis said, "If you look at the backseat of our car, we've got French fries, ketchup and drinks spilled and all kinds of stuff all over the place, because we end up going through some kind of drive through to get a meal every now and then."

Francis wanted something to keep the kids organized in the car, and when he couldn't find what he was looking for in stores, he invented LapFit.

The tray has spaces for dipping sauce, a drink and food.

"Everything has its own space. If you're an apple juice drinker, it fits right into that space," he said, using the cup holder space that uniquely fits a juice box.

A year ago, the former investment banker and his wife decided to make his idea a reality.

Dave quit his job in corporate America to have more time to spend with the family, but he never thought he'd find that career solution sitting in the backseat.

LapFit is sold online and in a few independent toy stores in the Mid-State.

The Francises hope a big box store will soon pickup the product.

LapFit has leg-hugging supports, is kid-approved and dishwasher safe.

It's an invention created out of necessity.

Francis said, "It always surprises me when a simple little product like this comes up and nothing's been out there."

LapFit sells for $19.99. Read more at LapFit.com.
