CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. -

Clarksville police arrested a man and woman Thursday night after finding a child badly injured in an apartment littered with drugs and drug paraphernalia.

Officers on a welfare check discovered Aaron Miller's two-year-old son with numerous lacerations and bruises on his body inside the Wallace Boulevard apartment Miller shares with Caroline Gregory.

Gregory, 23, admitted to causing the severe bruising and lacerations when she forcibly snatched the boy from a bed.  She also admitted to spanking him.

The boy had a laceration on the back of his head, both his ears were swollen and he had bruising to the forearm and buttocks, and several facial abrasions, according to a release from Clarksville police.

Gregory is charged aggravated child abuse and neglect.  Miller, 24, is also charged with child abuse and neglect for not seeking medical treatment for the boy's injuries.

Both were additionally charged with numerous drug counts after officers found a quarter pound of marijuana, pills, drug paraphernalia and a partially burnt marijuana cigarette and a blunt inside the apartment.

Miller was also charged with possessing a loaded firearm while committing a felony.

The boy was transported by ambulance from the apartment to Vanderbilt University in Nashville for treatment of his injuries.

Miller's other child, a seven-year-old girl, appeared to be healthy and uninjured.

The Department of Children's Services was contacted and both children are now in state custody.
