Metro officers resign after DUI arrests

Posted:
NASHVILLE, Tenn. -

Two Metro officers arrested for DUI in separate incidents, one in January, the other in December, have submitted their resignations effective after they serve 30-day suspensions without pay.

Officer Greg Blackburn, who worked at the Hermitage precinct, was arrested by the Tennessee Highway Patrol in Marion County in the early morning hours of December 17 after a trooper found him seated behind the wheel of his SUV parked on the shoulder of I-24.

He smelled of alcohol and appeared to be intoxicated.

Blackburn informed the police department of his arrest the following day and was immediately decommissioned.

Officer Wesley Terry, who worked in the specialized investigations division, was arrested January 28 after a Metro Parks officer found him asleep behind the wheel of his personal vehicle on Briley Parkway near Two Rivers Parkway.

A DUI officer responded to the scene and detected an odor of alcohol.

Field sobriety tasks indicated Terry was impaired and he was immediately decommissioned.

In individual agreements with the police department, Blackburn and Terry received 30-day unpaid suspensions on the condition that they submit irrevocable letters of resignation.

"The conclusions of these administrative matters clearly reflect that the actions of these two men were absolutely inconsistent with the duties, responsibilities and expectations of Metropolitan Nashville police officers," Chief Steve Anderson said in a release.

Blackburn graduated from the Metro Training Academy in March 2008.  Terry graduated in December 2005.
