Mayor Dean's 2-year-old niece killed in tragic accident

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -
Nashville Mayor Karl Dean's two-year-old niece was killed tragically after her father ran over her while he was backing out of his driveway Thursday evening.
Police told Nashville's News 2 the accident occurred at the family's home located on Ellendale Avenue in Belle Meade around 5 p.m.
According to officials, Joe Davis, 49, was unaware his daughter, Dugan Davis, was in a small scooter behind his BMW SUV.
Authorities said Dugan was rushed to St. Thomas Hospital before being transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
The child was pronounced dead upon arrival at Vanderbilt.
Police are calling the incident a "terrible accident."
In a statement, Mayor Dean's press secretary, Bonna Johnson told Nashville's News 2, "The entire family is devastated by the loss of this beautiful girl. She was loved and adored by her parents. Mayor Dean and his wife, Anne Davis, are doing all they can to be supportive in this difficult time. Their concern now turns to the child's parents, who are suffering deeply."
