MURFREESBORO, Tenn. -
Murfreesboro police are investigating after man reportedly approached three young children in front of their Murfreesboro home Wednesday and attempted to lure them with candy and ice cream.
Amanda McClure told Nashville's News 2 her three children were playing in the front yard of their Maylon Drive home when they were approached by an unidentified man.
Maylon Drive is located in the Westhaven Estates subdivision off Cason Lane.
"This car, it approached us and [a man] said, ‘Do you want candy or ice cream?' I said ‘no' and our little sister said, ‘yes,'" nine-year-old Genevieve Fredreiksen recalled.
Genevieve said she was frightened but knew exactly what to do.
She continued, "The car just started rolling slowly off. It went left and it came right back trying to see if we were there and we were already in the house telling out mom about it."
McClure told Nashville's News 2 as soon as her children told her what happened she ran outside to see if she the vehicle was still in the area.
She said she often worries about her children playing alone in the yard.
"[It's] fear, pure fear. I was just really scared. [The] first thing came to mind is, ‘seeing if I could see the car [and] see if I could see them,'" she said.
While uneasy about what happened, McClure said she's proud of her children and how they handled the situation.
"I'm very proud of them. The five-year-old needs a little work, but I'm very proud of them. They did the right thing [and] they came inside very quickly," she said.
Police said the suspect is described as a white man with reddish blond hair in his late 20s or early 30s.
He was last seen in the passenger seat of a white Pontiac with tinted windows.
Anyone with information on the man is urged to contact Murfreesboro police at 615-849-2670.
