NASHVILLE, Tenn. -

A DuPont Elementary School teacher won't face criminal charges for allegedly slapping a five-year-old student in the face.

The Metro School Board suspended the teacher with pay following the alleged incident in late January.

This week, the district attorney's office ruled the incident was not worthy of a criminal investigation.

The student's father told Nashville's News 2 Investigates Thursday he is "disappointed," adding he hopes the school "does the right thing."

The kindergarten student is developmentally delayed and believed to have ADHD, according to his mother.

"They were trying to put him in timeout and he threw a fit, and she lost her cool and slapped him in the face," she said of the incident in an interview last week.

The young boy has since been assigned to another class.

Metro school officials said the teacher remains on paid leave.

Officials said she will return to work at another school after a position is found.
