NASHVILLE, Tenn. -
Residents in a north Nashville neighborhood want the city to tear down dilapidated homes that have become eye sores for the community.
Charles Williams owns two rental properties on Moorewood Court. One of the homes is located next door to an abandoned, burned-out house.
He told Nashville's News 2 he doesn't think the city is doing enough to fix the problem.
"The building has been sitting in this condition for well over a year. It's just been a total nuisance to the neighborhood," said Williams.
Williams told Nashville's News 2 he struggles to find tenants who are willing to live in either of his properties because of all the dilapidated homes in the Chesapeake area neighborhood.
"They just tell me flat out, they don't want to live here," he said.
Williams said he has tried to locate the owners of the homes, but has not had any luck.
"Several owners went into foreclosure, the banks didn't take an interest in it anymore," said Williams.
He said he has complained to the city, but nothing is being done about the homes.
"We're just asking for the city and the council members and mayor to take a look at this and try to solve the problem," said Williams. "Demolish them. We can put millions of dollars downtown, but it seems that this area is being totally neglected by the city."
The district's council member, Walter Hunt, acknowledges the dilapidated homes are a problem and said he is trying to get a judge to issue an order to tear them down.
