NASHVILLE, Tenn. -

A 19-year-old driver was shot in the shoulder Wednesday morning in Metro Center, north of downtown Nashville, causing a two-car collision.

According to Metro police, shortly after 11 a.m. the victim, Cheyenne Turner, was stopped at a red light on Dominican Drive at Rosa Parks Boulevard when a second vehicle pulled up and a gunman, who has been identified as 24-year-old Timothy Batts allegedly opened fire.

Several shots were fired although Turner was only hit once in the shoulder.

In an attempt to getaway, Turner accelerated forward into the intersection where he was t-boned by another vehicle traveling on Rosa Parks.

The victim jumped from his vehicle and ran into the Tiger Mart convenience store located at the intersection and police were called.

Batts fled the scene before officers arrived.

Police called the incident a "retaliation shooting" and said Turner had previously fired on the shooter.

He had received a 10 year sentence for attempted second degree murder for the incident that occurred in January 2011.

Turner, who is currently on probation, was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center with non life-threatening injuries.

The intersection was partially blocked for about 90 minutes.  The roadway reopened just before 12:30 p.m.

Police urge anyone with information on Batts' whereabouts to call Metro police or Crime Stoppers at 74-CRIME.

Authorities said Batts has a previous cocaine possession conviction.
