CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Students at a Montgomery County elementary school have sent cards to dog owners, asking them to not keep pets chained or confined all day.
The project at Rossview Elementary School had children making Valentine's Day cards that were mailed to about 70 homes where dogs had been seen chained outside or left in pens for long periods, according to The Leaf-Chronicle.
Assistant Principal Frances Ann Camp said third through fifth graders and a special education class participated on a volunteer basis that didn't take up much class time.
Coupons for treats and spay and neuter vouchers were included with the cards.
Amy Shaver, executive director of the Humane Society of Clarksville-Montgomery County, said the project might be expanded to other schools next year.
