NASHVILLE, Tenn. -
Metro school officials are expected to vote to approve the extension of Teach for America's contract in public schools.
Teach for America is a highly selective teacher corps in which recent college graduates are placed in under-resourced schools for a period of two years.
The teachers, who do not have a traditional teacher's certificate commit to the program for two years.
The extension would go through June 30, 2014.
For each teacher recruited the school district would pay Teach for America $5,000 per year for two years.
"We've seen really good academic results as well as relationships with schools principals and students," Executive Director Shanni Dowell said.
The maximum compensation for the 2012-2013 school year would be $650,000 and the maximum compensation for the 2013-2014 school year would be $500,000
The fees do not include the teacher's salaries.
