Nashville Toffee Company finds sweet success nationwide

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -

If you're looking for a unique sweet treat to give your loved one this Valentine's Day, look no further than the Nashville Toffee Company.

Ten years ago, cooking toffee in the kitchen was a family tradition for George Cohn's wife.  Now it's a successful business for the Mid-State Couple.

"I thought that was so great," Cohn, a former investment banker, told Nashville's News 2 of his wife's treat, "and I've always wanted to do something a little different than what I was doing."

Packaged in signature orange, red and purple boxes, it's not just the taste that makes Nashville Toffee Company successful, according to Cohn, but the name itself.

"I think that Nashville has a growing cache that it didn't have maybe 25 years ago," he explained, adding Nashville Toffee Company has some of its highest sales at a Whole Foods store in New York City.

"It's just almonds, sea salt, sugar and butter, but it's the way that it's cooked that gives it a unique taste," Cohn continued.  "People remark about our toffee, that it's got a delicate crunch, it doesn't stick to your teeth."

Right now, Nashville Toffee Company sells 20,000 pounds of toffee a year, with plans to expand the brand's national footprint.

You can find the toffee at boutiques and supermarkets in Middle Tennessee.
