COLLEGE GROVE, Tenn. -

A Williamson County teenager was killed in a single car crash Saturday evening in College Grove.

The wreck was reported around 5 p.m. in the 8200 block of Haley Lane off Highway 96, about 30 miles south of Nashville.

According to the Tennessee Highway Patrol, 16-year-old Taylor Brewer was traveling southbound on Haley Lane when his GMC Sierra pickup truck ran off the right shoulder and struck a mailbox and two small trees.

The vehicle went airborne after hitting the trees, struck another, larger tree on the driver's side of the cab and traveled through a wooden fence before coming to a rest.

The THP said speed appears to be the contributing factor of the wreck.

Brewer was not wearing his seatbelt, according to the THP report, although it likely would not have made a difference.  He died at the scene.

A passenger in the truck, 14-year-old Luke Roney, was injured.

Brewer was a sophomore at Page High School in Franklin.

In a statement, Principal Dr. Andrea Anthony said, "Taylor Brewer exemplified great character as a Page High baseball player and student.  We mourn the loss of Taylor and celebrate his life today.  Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family."
