NASHVILLE, Tenn. -
Many fans were shocked Saturday night to learn of superstar Whitney Houston's untimely death.
The shocking news drove many fans to The Great Escape, a used DVDs, CDs, records, comic books and games store on Sunday to purchase her music.
Just one day following the tragic news of Houston's death, the store had the pop star's CDs on display on the front counter.
"I know people are going to want Whitney Houston," said assistant manager, Jimmy Street.
The first customer through the door Sunday proved him right.
"She went straight to Whitney Houston and picked up both of the CDs we had on the shelves," said Street.
Street told Nashville's News 2 that often times when superstars pass away, people will rush to get copies of their music.
"I think people want to feel closer to the person and the closest way to do that is by hearing them sing. It happened with Michael Jackson, I'm sure it happened as far back as Elvis. People just want to get as close to that artist and music is the best way," Street explained.
Despite Houston's many struggles through the years, he hopes people will remember her for one thing.
"Remember her for her talent and don't worry about everything else," said Street.
An hour after the store opened Sunday, only a few copies of Houston's CDs remained on store shelves.
Street predicted they would go fast.
Houston's ex-husband Bobby Brown was scheduled to take to the stage at the Municipal Auditorium on Sunday night with his band New Edition.
Brown's agent Jeff Allen said he would not be performing at the show.
