NASHVILLE, Tenn. -

Bobby Brown's band, New Edition, is set to play at the Metro Nashville Municipal Auditorium Sunday night at 7 p.m.

Brown is the ex-husband of Whitney Houston, who died unexpectedly Saturday night.

Brown's agent Jeff Allen said he would not be performing at the show.

According to reports, Brown broke down backstage pre-show Saturday night in Mississippi after learning of Houston's death. He missed the opening song and later joined the group.

MTV reported the 43-year-old R&B star told the crowd in Mississippi: "I would like to say, 'I love you, Whitney.' The hardest thing for me to do is to come on this stage."

An emotional Brown also blew a kiss to the sky.

Brown is reportedly on his way to California to be with his and Houston's 18-year-old daughter Bobbi Kristina who has received treatment at a hospital following the news of her mother's death.
