Metro police investigate rape on Vanderbilt campus

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -

Metro police detectives are continuing to investigate a case of rape that occurred on the Vanderbilt University campus on Friday night.

Authorities told Nashville's News 2 the incident was reported around 7:30 p.m.

The 21-year-old victim told police the rape happened on the seventh floor of a parking garage attached to the Baker Building, near 21st and West End avenues, just west of downtown Nashville.

The victim reported that she was about to get into her vehicle when the man confronted her, pushed her into her car, sexually assaulted and robbed her.  

After the suspect got out of the car, the victim drove to a nearby restaurant from where police were called.

Police said the victim was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

Detectives said the suspect is described as a clean-shaven black male in his 20s to early 30s.

The suspect is said to be around six feet tall and weighs around 180 pounds. At the time of the incident, he was wearing a black shirt, dark jacket and dark pants.

Vanderbilt University police are assisting in the investigation.
