MURFREESBORO, Tenn. -
A former Rutherford County Sheriff's Deputy was charged with driving under the influence just one day after he resigned from his position.
According to a report in the Daily News Journal, James Vanderveer resigned from his position on Tuesday because he is moving to another state.
Vanderveer was arrested early Wednesday morning after an officer clocked him traveling at 45-miles-per hour in a 30 mile-per-hour zone on Middle Tennessee Boulevard.
The paper reported the arresting officer noticed a strong smell of alcohol on the former deputy, and that his eyes appeared to be glossy and bloodshot.
Vanderveer reportedly failed multiple field sobriety tests issued by the officer.
Vanderveer claimed to have only consumed two beers.
He was booked into the Rutherford County jail on a $1,000 bond for DUI.
He is scheduled to appear in court in April.
Rutherford County Sheriff's Office spokesperson Lisa Marchesoni told the paper there was not an internal investigation going on at the time or prior to Vanderveer's resignation.
