NASHVILLE, Tenn. -

The driver of a pickup truck will be charged with DUI after an off-duty officer spotted him driving erratically in the wrong direction early Wednesday morning.

Metro police told Nashville's News 2 the off-duty officer called officers on-duty around 1 a.m. after spotting the pickup truck heading east in the westbound lanes of State Route 45 in Old Hickory.

When police attempted to pull the driver over, he did not respond and officers had to deploy spike strips on Robinson Road at Bridgeway Drive.

The truck then came to a stop after hitting a light pole, causing minor damage.

The suspect was taken into custody and transported to a local hospital to be examined.

Police said the suspect will be charged with DUI.

The suspect's name was not immediately released.
