NASHVILLE, Tenn. -
Belmont University hosted a talent show on Tuesday night in an effort to raise money for the Special Olympics.
"Our goal is to raise as much money as possible for Special Olympics and create a better bond between the student athletes and the student body here at Belmont," explained Belmont Men's Basketball player Mike Hedgepeth.
In addition to putting on an entertaining show, participants in the Battle of the Bruins hope to raise $15,000 through ticket sales, donations and a silent auction.
"The softball team is dancing, a little bit to each genre, we've got some rock and some hip-hop and some country, so we hope it could be fun," said Belmont softball player Hannah Irwin.
The Battle of the Bruins is modeled after a similar event at the University of Illinois.
A panel of celebrity judges, including NFL star Golden Tate, former American Idol contestant Melinda Doolittle and former Miss Tennessee Allison Demarcus will all help decide the winner of the event.
