WILLIAMSON CO., Tenn. -

On Tuesday night, the Williamson County School Board and the Franklin Special School District held a joint meeting to discuss Governor Bill Haslam's proposal that would eliminate state imposed class size caps.

Initially in the bill, Governor Haslam's proposal would allow districts to pay teachers more based on class size or student learning gains.

However, before Tuesday's meeting Governor Haslam offered an amendment to that piece of the proposal.

"It sets aside the current funding formula and says even though we're going to change some other things, the way that teachers are funded in the state of Tennessee will not change and we [the school board] think that's a good move," Williamson County Schools Director, Dr. Mike Looney told Nashville's News 2.

The governor's proposal has met opposition from parents and even Williamson County teachers.

"You're dividing the teacher's time by more students and the students get less one on one time," said Kevin King, a teacher in Williamson County.

Both school boards had originally intended to vote on as resolution to oppose the governor's bill. However, in light of his late amendment, both boards decided not to take a formal stance on the bill.
