NASHVILLE, Tenn. -

Metro police are continuing to investigate after a homeowner shot at two suspects who attempted to break into his east Nashville home early Sunday morning.

The incident happened on South 19th Street near Boscobel Street.

Two men attempted to break into a home around 1 a.m. said police.

The homeowner, Aaron Harris told police he fired a warning shot from inside his home after he was awakened by someone entering through a window of his home.

The 36-year-old reported that he went outside and saw two men running from his property.

In an attempt to stop the two suspects, Harris said he shouted "Freeze," prompting one of the suspects, who has been identified as Michael D. Brewer, to stop.

Harris is said to have struck Brewer in the head with the stock of a shotgun, before he walked him back into his yard and made him lay down while he yelled to a neighbor to call police.

While detaining Brewer, Harris reported that alleged accomplice Stephen Mayo returned to the home a short time later in a pickup truck.

The homeowner reported to police that he fired two gunshots at Mayo when he started to get out of his vehicle.

Mayo received head injuries.

Mayo was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center for treatment. A warrant charging him with aggravated burglary is outstanding.

Brewer is charged with aggravated burglary and remains in jail on $25,000.

Police said Harris' use of force will reviewed by the District Attorney's Office.
