ASHLAND CITY, Tenn. -

Cheatham County officers on Saturday honored the life of a fellow officer killed 30 years ago.

The Fraternal Order of Police Lodge No. 81 in Cheatham County met at Noon at Pegram City Hall on Highway 70 where a flag was lowered to half-staff.

Saturday marked the 30-year anniversary of the death of Sheriff's Deputy Frank Jordan.

"It feels like it just happened yesterday," said Johnny Jordan, Frank Jordan's younger brother.  "The hurt is still there."

Jordan was fatally shot during a drug store burglary in Pegram in 1982.

Although off-duty, he responded to a burglar alarm at a nearby pharmacy.  He found two suspects inside and called for backup officers.

While he was waiting, a third suspect approached him from behind and shot him in the back with a shotgun.

The three suspects, all brothers, were later apprehended and convicted of felony murder.

Saturday, a police convoy traveled from Pegram City Hall to Forest Hills Cemetery, where flowers were placed on Jordan's gravesite.

Jordan, a 1976 graduate of Cheatham County Central High School, served three years in the U.S. Air Force before he became a deputy.

He was 23 years old when he died.
