NASHVILLE, Tenn. -
Authorities are investigating a case of vandalism Friday on the campus of Vanderbilt University.
Students heard rumors early Friday morning about vehicles being vandalized on campus.
"I actually first initially heard about it coming out of my classes," said student Alex Savitt. "Checked my car, nothing was broken, so I was quite relieved."
Since students' vehicles are registered with the university, some students first learned through email that their vehicles were damaged.
Police told Nashville's News 2 at least 27 vehicles were targeted in several campus parking lots, with windshields busted and mirrors ripped off, resulting in thousands of dollars worth of damage.
Authorities believe one student is responsible for the vandalism, and he is in custody, but his name has not been released at this time.
Several witnesses provided a good description of the suspect, so police were able to make a quick arrest.
Police think he busted the windows out with his hands. Blood was visible on some of the cars.
Savitt said, "Yeah, I heard he was bleeding everywhere, because there's blood on a bunch of the cars."
Authorities don't believe the motive was robbery, as nothing else was stolen.
