A Davidson County jury Friday morning convicted Bobby Stanley George of trying to abduct a child from a restaurant in Hermitage in 2009.
Witnesses testified that George pulled into the restaurant parking lot the evening of March 31, 2009, and approached the eight-year old victim and his brother.
He showed them money and told them to get into the car.
The boys started to walk away when George got out of his car and grabbed the victim by the arm. The children got away and alerted their parents.
Employees inside the restaurant got the defendant's license plate number and called police, who picked him up moments later, about half a mile from that location.
In addition to being convicted of attempt to commit especially aggravated kidnapping, George was also convicted of DUI.
He will be sentenced on March 2.
George also has a pending charge of failure to appear, when he failed to show up when his trial had been previously set.
