CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. -

A former receptionist at Woodlawn Elementary School in Clarksville was arrested this week on charges she stole nearly $700 from co-workers and funds from parents.

Lee Ann Daw, 32, was charged Monday with six counts of theft.

According to investigators, Daw stole money from the principal's and vice principal's purses and left thank you notes on their desks afterwards.

The rest of the money was taken from photography orders, funds for a PTO-sponsored fundraiser and Ident-A-Kid card orders.

"I was shocked because she's so sweet. I was very shocked. You know, don't judge a book by its cover.  She's such a sweet lady, I never would have thought it," a school volunteer told Nashville's News 2.

"They say innocent until proven guilty, but she admitted it. Then she put notes out, now that wasn't very smart," said parent BJ Szmagalski.

Nashville's News 2 has learned the thefts occurred between September 12 and December 14 of last year.

Montgomery County schools spokesperson Elise Shelton said Daw was fired from the district January 17.

Daw was employed at the elementary school for five years.

The investigation is ongoing.
