CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. -
There is a new option for shoppers in Clarksville. The city's first Publix supermarket opened Wednesday at the Madison Street Commons located at 1771 Madison Street.
The 55,000 square foot store includes a bakery, deli and pharmacy.
Along with a wide offering of fresh-baked breads, the bakery will offer an array of mouth-watering cakes, cookies and pies as well as an assortment of decadent desserts.
The full-service deli will highlight the finest Boar's Head meats and cheeses, as well as made-to-order sub sandwiches and award-winning fried chicken.
The new produce department also promises to carry "both organic and conventionally grown fruits and vegetables, featuring the season's best from around the corner and around the world."
In addition, the store will have a full-service meat department where a Publix associate can help shoppers select fresh fish and seafood items. A meat cutter will also be on hand to prepare custom cuts of meat.
A ribbon cutting ceremony was held at 6:45 a.m. to officially open the store. The first 25 customers to spend $25 also received a free bag of groceries.
Prize giveaways were planned throughout the store for the rest of the day.
Regular store hours for the store will be 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily.
A second Publix location is scheduled to open in August at the Shoppes at Peachers Mill off Tiny Town Road just north of the city.
Currently Publix has more than 1,000 stores in Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, Alabama and Tennessee.
