OAK GROVE, Ky. -
Police are searching for three of the four men who attempted to rob an automotive repair shop in Hopkinsville, Kentucky, on Monday and opened fire on responding officers.
Authorities told Nashville's News 2 Oak Grove police spotted the four men shortly after the incident and a chase ensued.
Oak Grove officers attempted to stop the men on Interstate 24 East, just north of the Tennessee border, when one of the suspects opened fire.
"When Oak Grove went to stop the car, they jumped out of the car and bailed. One of the suspects fired at the Oak Grove police officer," Hopkinsville Police Chief Guy Howie said.
Officers were able to take one of the men into custody.
Police from multiple agencies, including Clarksville, Montgomery County and Christian County in Kentucky, assisted.
A K-9 unit and Metro police helicopter also aided in the search.
No injuries were reported in the incident.
Due to the ongoing search, traffic was backed up from the Tennessee state line for approximately four miles into Kentucky earlier in the evening.
The traffic has since cleared.
The three men at large are described as black males who were all wearing hooded sweatshirts and masks at the time of the incident.
Anyone with information on any of the men's whereabouts is urged to contact local authorities.
