2 Mid-State counties see increase in home burglaries

EAGLEVILLE, Tenn. -

Authorities in Rutherford and Williamson counties are continuing to search for burglars who have robbed eight homes in recent weeks.

Police told Nashville's News 2 the burglaries hit during the day when homeowners are at work.

"What they're doing is they're going up to these houses and knocking on the door, and if nobody is home, they just kick in the door and rob the house," explained Rutherford County Sheriff Robert Arnold.

According to authorities, the thieves are taking electronics and jewelry from the homes.

All of the burglarized homes are near Highway 41A in the Eagleville area.

The brazen crimes have left residents unnerved.

"I think there needs to be a flashing sign out here.  Everybody lock your doors and get some kind of security," said resident Valerie Blackwell.

Authorities are asking homeowners to be on the alert.

"That's the best way is a community keeping their eyes open and knowing their surroundings and knowing who's at their house, who's at their neighbors' house," said Sheriff Arnold.

Anyone wanting to report any suspicious activity is urged to contact the Rutherford County Sheriff's Department at 615-898-7770.
