A Smyrna woman surrendered to police Monday on a grand jury indictment charging her with attempted first degree murder in the failed assassination of her estranged husband last August.
Joel Holmes was shot in the head outside the Summit Apartments located on Mountain High Drive while dropping off his two small children at the home of his estranged wife, Katherine Holmes.
According to police, shortly after the 28-year-old father arrived to the complex, he was approached by a man from the side of the office building and shot.
Police said Joel Holmes was the victim of a murder-for-hire plot masterminded by his wife.
Officers arrested Barry Dean Haislip Jr. for the shooting and charged him with attempted criminal homicide.
Katherine Holmes is charged with attempted first degree murder. She was being held in the Metro jail on a $200,000 bond.
