CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. -

Clarksville police captured a man believed to be responsible for the violent assault of his girlfriend early Sunday morning.

Officers were called to the woman's home on Melrose Drive in Clarksville around 3:30 a.m.

Clarksville police spokesperson Jim Knoll said the victim, 43, had just been assaulted by her boyfriend, Jeremy Brundige.

Police said the woman had been choked multiple times, had her head struck against a wall, and at one point, a gun was placed against her head.

After multiple, unsuccessful attempts to get away from Brundige, she was finally able to escape and call police.

Brundige had already left her house when officers arrived.

Officers combed the area and found Brundige's vehicle at his home on Southwood Court.

Officers surrounded the house and made repeated attempts to contact Brundige but he refused to surrender.

Crisis negotiators were called to the scene and convinced him to come out of the house around 8 a.m.

Police said Brundige, 33, was treated a local hospital for unknown injuries and booked into the Montgomery County jail on one count aggravated assault.

His bond was set at $5,000.
