NASHVILLE, Tenn. -
A teenager was killed and two others injured when a man drove off Tusculum Road in Antioch early Saturday and struck them with his car.
The accident happened near the intersection of Coleridge Drive just after Midnight.
Police said Alexis Lopez-Rodriguez, 20, was driving his 2003 Honda Accord east on Tusculum Road when the car left the roadway, struck the teens on sidewalk, traveled through a fence and struck a tree.
Kevin Bautista, a 15-year-old student at Cane Ridge High School, died on the scene.
His brother, Jhonathan Bautista, 14, fractured his neck and cousin, Rene Mendez, Jr., 16, remained in coma Sunday at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
After the crash, police said Lopez-Rodriguez got out of his car, went to his home nearby and had his father drive him to Southern Hills Medical Center to be treated for injuries he sustained.
Police said he did not stop to render aid to the teens nor telephone police.
A blood sample will be analyzed by the TBI Crime Laboratory for alcohol and drug content.
Officers have not ruled out the possibility that Lopez-Rodriguez intentionally drove onto the sidewalk where the teens were.
"[Detectives] have to go through whether he had medical issues was the reason he left or if he left for some other reason," Metro police Capt. Ken Walburn said, adding, "If you're involved in a vehicle crash, you're supposed to stay at the scene until police get there."
Lopez-Rodriguez will be taken to jail upon his discharge from the hospital.
He faces one count vehicular homicide by intoxication, two counts of vehicular assault and one count of leaving the scene of a fatal crash.
