BRENTWOOD, Tenn. -
Brentwood police Chief Ricky Watson retired Friday night after working 25 years in the community.
"He's taken our police department from a small town police department and made it into a professional law enforcement agency and we're really going to miss him," said Brentwood police Capt. Tommy Walsh.
Before entering law enforcement, Chief Watson served with the Tennessee National Guard and the U.S. Air Force.
"I just want to thank everybody for their trust in me to lead the Brentwood Police Department…I tried to do my best and I think I'm leaving it better than I found it," said Chief Watson.
Watson is 56 years old. He was chief for 12 of the 25 years he worked for the Brentwood Police Department.
Assistant Chief Jeff Hughes will take his place as chief.
