NASHVILLE, Tenn. -
An elderly Ashland City man died on a plane en route to Nashville International Airport Friday night.
Eighty-nine-year-old A.J. Binkley was on U.S. Airways flight 1400 from Charlotte, North Carolina.
Officials at BNA said the plane was not redirected and landed safely.
Binkley's niece told Nashville's News 2 her uncle was a World War II veteran and was on his way home after visiting the World War II monument in Washington, DC.
It was not immediately clear how he died, but fire officials said he had extensive medical issues.
The Nashville Fire Department has turned over its investigation to Metro police and the state medical examiner's office.
