Smyrna Middle School principal loses battle with cancer

SMYRNA, Tenn. -

The principal from Smyrna Middle School in Rutherford County has succumbed to cancer.

According to a report in the Daily News Journal, Dr. Linda Kennedy passed away on Thursday morning after battling the disease for two years.

Kennedy had previously beaten uterine cancer in 2009, however was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer that affects the lining of the stomach last September.

The paper reported Dr. Kennedy underwent chemotherapy in November.

Kennedy also served as the former assistant principal of La Vergne High School.

Funeral services have not been released.
