MURFREESBORO, Tenn. -

Multiple expansion projects are underway on the campus of Middle Tennessee State University located in Murfreesboro.

Currently the university is in the middle of half a dozen major improvement projects including a new student union building and additional parking areas.

The two new parking areas are something that students have been requesting for several years.

According to MTSU officials more parking options is something students here have wanted for so long, that they agreed to pay for it.

Both parking lots are going to be funded by student activity fees.

Student Jordan Hall told Nashville's News 2 he believes using student activity fees is the perfect way to fund the lots.

"You really feel like your student activity fees are going to good use, and it feels like they really are affecting us, the students and that's a good feeling," he said.

Tom Tozer of public affairs said he believes growth at MTSU will continue in upcoming years.

"It's just the wave of the future. We anticipate the growth will continue and that more and more folks will want to come to MTSU," he said.

Tozer said they also plan to build a new science facility in the future.

The new student center is scheduled to open in the fall, while the two parking garages are expected to open in March 2013.
