Flames, heavy smoke engulf north Nashville home

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -

Firefighters battled heavy smoke and flames Wednesday morning at a home in north Nashville.

The blaze broke out around 7 a.m. at the house located in the 2400 block of Middle Street off Rosa L. Parks Boulevard near Metro Center.

The back of the house was consumed by the fire when crews arrived.

One firefighter was injured when he fell through the ceiling of the home while trying to extinguish the flames.

The firefighter twisted his ankle but was not seriously injured and was not transported to the hospital.

Dark smoke coming from the house was visible from the interstate.

A mother and her adult son escaped uninjured.

The Red Cross has been called to assist the family.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
