NASHVILLE, Tenn. -
A laundry room fire forced an east Nashville family from their home late Tuesday night.
The fire started around 11:30 p.m. on Davidson Street near Shelby Park.
By the time firefighters arrived, the home was filled with smoke.
All seven people who lived inside escaped uninjured, but a pit bull puppy died from smoke inhalation.
The home's fire extinguisher and smoke detectors were not working at the time of the fire.
The Red Cross was called to assist the residents find a place to stay for the night.
Crews are investigating the exact cause of the fire.
