SUMMERTOWN, Tenn. -

Cheerleaders at a Mid-State high school are hosting a "Pink Out" during  a basketball game Tuesday night to help raise money for a student battling cancer.

Summertown High School cheerleaders sold hundreds of pink t-shirts leading up to game against Wayne County High School in an effort to raise money for Colt Perry who attends nearby Lawrenceburg High School.

"It is a student that a lot of our kids know and it is a family that a lot of our families in the community know and it has really turned out quite special," Principal Brent Long told Nashville's News 2.

Many of the students who purchased pink "Join the Fight" breast cancer awareness shirts will meet the Perry family for the first time during the game.

"Summertown is really tiny, but we all draw together to help one person out. We are really close here. It is a close knit family," senior Brooklynn Malugin told Nashville's News 2.

The cheerleaders also planned to collect donations during the basketball game.

"All the proceeds are going to the Perry family to help fund their traveling expenses," student Taylor Franks said.

Summertown High School students issued a challenge to the other Lawrence County high schools to match or beat the money they raised for the Perry family.
