FRANKLIN, Tenn. -
Police in Franklin are seeking the public's help identifying the woman who, according to detectives, has been confusing local fast food clerks during peak hours to fraudulently obtain cash.
At least two Wendy's restaurants in Franklin, on Murfreesboro Road and on Mallory Lane, less than three miles apart, have been hit, as well as other locations across the Mid-State.
Earlier this month, Franklin police said the woman placed an order at the Murfreesboro Road drive-through.
After paying for her order, the woman went inside to say she was short-changed, claiming to have paid for her $2 order with a $50 bill.
According to police, the suspect became irate when management told her that they would have to balance the drawer, so they gave her the change she claimed she was due and she left.
It was only later, when managers counted the money in the drawer, that they learned her claim was false.
According to police, quick-change artists often try to intimidate their victims by raising their voice, belittling them, and making a scene during peak times when other customers are waiting.
The best way to deal with this kind of crook is to remain calm and ask them to wait. If they truly have been short-changed, they will.
The woman is described as a white female in her mid to late 20s with long black or brown hair. She is believed to be driving a red mini-van with a luggage rack and trailer hitch.
Anyone with information on the woman's identity is urged to call Franklin police at 615-794-2513.
