NASHVILLE, Tenn. -

A new Walmart is scheduled to host a ribbon cutting ceremony on Wednesday morning as the store officially opens for business and creates more than 200 new jobs.

The new Walmart store is located on Powell Avenue, just south of downtown Nashville, in the 100 Oaks area.

"This Walmart is really a different type of a prototype. This is a super center, a 92,000-square foot-building," explained store manager Stephen Taylor.

Taylor told Nashville's News 2 he feels the new store will be successful since it is one of the few retailers in the area that offers an array of merchandise.

"It's a desert of opportunity for us because we don't have a lot these types of stores in the area, so we're really able to encompass from the Green Hills area and the downtown area. We're going to be that one stop shop with everybody here, with Belmont and Vanderbilt [universities], so it's really a great opportunity for us to be here," he said.

The store is scheduled to officially open to the public at 7:30 a.m. Wednesday and employees more than 250 people.

During the store's ribbon cutting, officials plan to announce $14,000 in grants that will be presented to local organizations.
