NASHVILLE, Tenn. -
Metro police and emergency management personnel rescued a suicidal man who jumped into the Cumberland River Tuesday morning.
Officers responded to the 1700 block of River Hills Drive around 10:30 a.m. after the man's friend called 911.
The friend told police he received a text message from the man saying he was going to end his life. He responded to the River Hills Drive address and found the man's clothes near the riverbank.
The man jumped into the river across from the Shelby Bottoms Greenway in east Nashville when officers arrived.
Metro's helicopter pilot spotted him clinging to a tree near where Mill Creek dumps into the Cumberland River a short time later.
Crews reached the man and pulled him from the river about an hour later.
He was described as being "very cold" but conscious and breathing, according to fire officials at the scene.
The man's name was not immediately released.
It was also not immediately clear what charges he would face, if any.
