A former firefighter rescued a man from his smoke-filled apartment early Tuesday morning in south Nashville.
Authorities said George Pollard was driving by the Southbrook Apartments on Linbar Drive around 1 a.m. when he noticed smoke coming from the roof of one of the buildings.
Pollard said he entered through the back patio and found thick smoke in the apartment.
He was able to pull the man out of a room.
The victim is expected to be okay.
Pollard told Nashville's News 2 he previously worked as a firefighter in Florida.
The cause of the blaze is under investigation.
