MURFREESBORO, Tenn. -

Murfreesboro police charged a Rutherford County man who was driving on a revoked license with his sixth DUI offense on Friday evening.

Brian Allan Dumm was taken into custody in the Hooter's parking lot located near West Clark Boulevard, just after 5 p.m.

When officers approached the 47-year-old suspect they detected a heavy odor of alcohol and noticed that he was unsteady on his feet.

Dumm told authorities that he had consumed five or six beers earlier in the day.

"This person is a repeat offender. Mr. Dumm has five previous DUIs and needs some serious intervention to keep him off of our streets," police spokesperson Kyle Evans said.

He continued, "Mr. Dumm took it upon himself to risk his life and everyone's life [on the roadway]. This is his sixth offense, so hopefully we can put a stop to it and we can keep him from getting behind the wheel while intoxicated.

According to police, Dumm denied to perform a field sobriety test and refused to undergo a blood test to determine his blood alcohol level.

However, authorities said his blood was forcibly drawn due to the DUI offense.

Dumm is charged with his sixth DUI offense, driving on a revoked license and violation of the implied consent law.
