Tootsie's Orchid Lounge ranks No. 21 on Complex magazine's list.
NASHVILLE, Tenn. -
Tootsie's Orchid Lounge on Lower Broadway is one of the world's most famous honky-tonks and now it can add another on its list of honors.
Complex magazine recently voted Tootsie's one of the 25 best nightclubs of all time.
Tootsie's opened in the 1960s. The bar was purchased by Steve Smith in the early 1990s.
At Tootsie's, it's clear the focus is keeping the history alive.
Instead of modern decor, the walls are lined with autographed pictures of county legends, many of whom have enjoyed a beverage or two at the bar.
Tootsie's ranks No. 21 on the list of top nightclubs from around the world, honored alongside clubs like The Viper Room in Los Angeles, the Ministry of Sound in London and Studio 54 and the CBGB in New York. Both New York clubs have since closed.
"I think that's the only reason they chose us is because we're so unique. We don't only play country music. We play all kinds of music, but we're based on county music," Smith said.
Tootsie's is open seven nights a week until 2 a.m. or later.
