PLEASANT VIEW, Tenn. -
Pleasant View police are continuing to search for the thieves who stole nearly two dozen street signs over the weekend.
According to police, the signs were mainly stolen from two neighborhoods and are believed to have been taken by teenagers in the area.
"I think it was a juvenile act, just a typical type thing that would happen. Destroy mailboxes, steal street signs," Officer Adam Wright told Nashville's News 2.
Officials said not only did the suspects getaway with the street signs to Seymour and Echo lanes and Bell Road, but also the sign honoring a fallen soldier.
"One of the signs here was very important to us, especially to the town of Pleasant View," Wright said, adding, "Lance Corporal Gabe Rainey, he was killed in combat action in Afghanistan on July 9th 2010. His family, his mother resides here and it's not just another sign."
Authorities told Nashville's News 2 this is not the first time thieves have stolen street signs.
Several years ago, the sign for Tobacco Road was stolen so many times, the town council voted to change the name of the street to Harvest Road.
According to Wright, it will cost the town more than $500 to replace the signs, however, he believes the signs will eventually be recovered.
Police are offering a $250 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those involved in stealing the signs.
Anyone with information is urged to contact Pleasant View police at 615-746-0600.
