NASHVILLE, Tenn. -

The Metro police officer hit by a car last weekend was discharged from Vanderbilt University Medical Center Wednesday morning and will continue his recovery at home, the department said in a release Wednesday.

Officer Brent Hoadley was struck by a car and critically injured Saturday morning while directing traffic around a crash on Murfreesboro Pike in Donelson.

Metro police said the investigation into the collision that injured Hoadley is continuing.

Officers will go over their findings with the district attorney's office for a determination as to whether the driver of the car, Gameel Atealla Mesad, will face any charges.

Mesad, 47, told police he suffers from a blood sugar condition and doesn't know what happened.

Hoadley, 31, is a six-year veteran of the Metro Nashville Police Department.

He suffered injuries to his legs, mouth, jaw and teeth but no internal injuries.
